Merriam Webster defines “Principle” as “comprehensive and fundamental law”; “the law or fact of nature underlying the working of an artificial device”. That is, something that must be in place for a thing (a device) to work. Successes and riches do not usually
come automatically; in addition to God-factor, they rather operate by principles. Even before the fall; our first parents were shown some principles they must continue to operate with if they must remain successful in the Garden where God has planted them:
1.They were to work the Garden
2.They were not to eat the wrong fruit
Everything collapsed when they went against one of those principles! This accounts to why people could do a lot of prayers at the beginning of the year, and still go through the year wretchedly poor for not giving attention to required principles.
That the good news Jesus’ coming brought to mankind includes the poor (according to our unit text: Luke 4:18) shows us clearly how it is God’s desire that we should live a life free from poverty—spiritually and financially. To achieve God’s desires for our financial prosperity however, we must discover the principles that govern them and apply our lives to them most effectively. These principles could differ from person to person and field to field depending on God’s calling upon one’s life. There are also some of these principles that are general—binding on everyone irrespective of religious or professional affiliations. One must therefore live within his religious and professional principles, as well as general principle to achieve financial prosperity.

Key Point: The devil is not always responsible for all our life’s troubles. Most a time, nothing works until we work within a required principle. Even prayers could become useless when required principles are ignored!
