After a long time, in the third year, the word of the Lord came to Elijah: “Go and present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the land.” 1 King 18:1 New International Version (NIV)
It
was about three and half years that there had been no rain in the whole land of
Israel. Consequently, there was very severe famine everywhere. The people
desperately needed some miracles; and the word of God came to Elijah as
contained in our text: “…Go and present
yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the land." (NIV) That’s the miracle they needed. It has
been declared, but must be brought into full manifestation. What happens next
however depends only on what Elijah will do with that word.
Here
is the need to hear what God is saying in every situation and also take some
corresponding actions towards the demands of what we hear. What God says, will
always come to pass; but we must be attentive and diligent enough to give
corresponding actions, either of faith-responses or obedience-responses to it.
God’s word, plus corresponding actions, equals to desired miracles!
